Schell IP helps innovative businesses evaluate where an existing patent portfolio should grow. We connect issued patents and pending applications with product improvements, engineering plans, competitive questions, and the commercial decisions that make additional protection worth considering.

More applications do not automatically create a stronger portfolio. Start by mapping important products and planned features against the claims and disclosures already in the portfolio. Identify ownership gaps, upcoming deadlines, and inventions developed since the original filings.
A useful review can distinguish improvements supported by an existing disclosure from later-developed subject matter that may require a new application. It can also identify claims or jurisdictions that no longer align with the business. Filing priorities should reflect commercial importance and the information available to support the proposed scope.
Depending on the record and applicable deadlines, a discussion may include new applications, continuation or divisional strategies, international filings, or the acquisition or licensing of relevant rights. These paths have different requirements, costs, and consequences; none automatically broadens protection.
We can help organize invention capture, application preparation and prosecution, portfolio reviews, and patent diligence. A portfolio map can also support conversations with investors or transaction counsel without treating application counts as proof of value or enforceability.
An existing filing does not automatically support later-developed features. New matter, priority, and available application paths require review of the specific record.
No. Any proposed claims must have adequate support and satisfy applicable requirements. Timing and the status of the application family matter.
Not necessarily. Territorial strategy can consider commercial importance, manufacturing, enforcement practicality, cost, and deadlines.
